German-Turkish art project
On 21st of June 2011 the mayor of the district Tepebasi of the Turkish town Eskisehir, Mr. Ahmet Atac, the mayor of Berlin Treptow-Köpenick, Gabriele Schöttler, the consul general of the Republic Turkey, Mustafa Pulat and Yüksel Kocadoru from the Anatolian University solemnly opened an art exhibition on the Campus of the University of Applied Science in Berlin Oberschöneweide.
The title of this exhibition was “In the past they came as workpeople, nowadays they come as artists”.
The district mayor Gabriele Schöttler welcomed the Turkish delegation with the words "Türkiye'den Sevgili arkadaslar" - "Dear Turkish friends" and emphasized the kindness on which these young friendship between the two cities is based. The mayor Ahmet Atac was pleased by such an enormous feedback and was presenting proudly the fruits of this close relationship between Tepebasi and Treptow-Köpenick. The exhibition showed paintings and sculptures from artists of the Anatolian University Eskisehir and some examples of the colourful folk art of the region.
One day after Hamide Kocadoru was reading from her children’s book “The friends of the small leopard” in a school. 75 excited young students from a German-Turkish school in Kreuzberg and from a school in Treptow-Köpenick were listening magnetized the stories which were read in out in German and Turkish.
The famous Turkish wood carver Devrim Eraklin, who teaches at the Anatolian University as well, showed his talent in a workshop. In front of many artists from Treptow-Köpenick he demonstrated his great artistic and manual skills. As the result of one month of work he presented the coat of arms of Treptow-Köpenick made from oak wood.
This successful co-operation between Tepebasi and Treptow-Köpenick will be continued by the participation of two artists from Treptow-Köpenick in the notable international terracotta symposium in Turkey in September.
